Eye doctor Chico
Glaucoma is an eye disease which can show no symptoms in the early stages. It is important that you come into our Enterprise Optometry Group to see our
eye doctor Chico, for a yearly eye exam, which includes a glaucoma eye screening.
When you visit our vision practice, you will be seen by one of our expert optometrists, either Dr. Gary Gallagher or Dr. Mitch Martin. Our eye doctor Chico can examine your eyes and determine whether or not you are experiencing problems with glaucoma. While glaucoma may show no symptoms in the early stages, it can be diagnosed during an eye exam which tests the intraocular pressure of the eye, and during which the eye doctor views the optic nerve. When a patient has glaucoma, it will affect the way the optic nerve appears. When glaucoma is diagnosed in the early stages, it can usually be generally treated by our eye doctor who can manage your glaucoma. When found early, glaucoma can be treated with the use of prescription eye drops which are self-administered by the patient. These eye drops will help to keep the intraocular pressure of the eyes at a safe and normal level. Glaucoma is not a single eye disease, but actually a group of eye diseases which all can result in optic nerve damage. Glaucoma is a very serious eye diseases, and is the second leading cause of blindness in our country. If glaucoma runs in your family, you want to make sure that you have periodic vision screenings, as recommended by our eye doctor. The most common form of glaucoma, primary open-angle glaucoma, usually has no noticeable signs or symptoms in the early stages, when it can be easily treated. Treatment of glaucoma focuses on keeping the disease from advancing; unfortunately, vision loss to glaucoma cannot be restored.
